Cleaning with brush and floss makes for a perfect combo in thorough home cleaning. Still this does not mean thorough clean as such. This is because no matter how meticulous and stringent one is regarding home dental care he cannot clean thoroughly.

Home dental cleaning has limitations as far as tools and technique, expertise and other flexibility are concerned. Because of this limitation an individual can clean his tooth off soft deposits but fails to remove hard deposits stringently adhered to the teeth.

Such removal of tenacious deposits is beyond the capacity of any brush etc. Dentists have innovatively invented instruments of the like of ultrasonic scalers etc. And along with all these new clinical cleaning tools the dentists have introduced a new technique or practice called Oral prophylaxis to implement these.

The plus point is that it not only gives the professional clean but also evaluates the oral cavity for any other problems that might be present. For example the thorough clean agenda cleans not only the calculus type deposits from visible portion but also the area under the gumline, as well as the inside of the mouth narrow fissure areas which is seldom cleaned effectively.

As the procedure is very extensive and peer in to gum line type areas, the patient should be put under anesthesia to avoid reflex interpretation and above all pain. Those patients will feel better and so cooperate more which makes the procedure a success.

In addition, for better safety reasons endotracheal tube is allowed to be placed in the patient's trachea. This will protect the lungs from the bacteria that are being removed from the teeth.  Go ahead for the thorough cleaning.
