You’ve heard the old joke, “Your teeth are fine, but those gums have to go.” Of course, it’s not funny if you’re the one who has to deal with the prospect of periodontal surgery. Too frightened or embarrassed to seek necessary treatment, people with gum disease often lose their pearly whites as a result of their neglect, fear and anxiety about conventional periodontal treatment. But Dr. Stephen Brown, DDS, FACD, FICD, demonstrates that thanks to technological advances, research, and innovative treatment options, the gum disease fear factor is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Specifically, he cites Laser Periodontal Therapy™ (LPT), an FDA-approved and patented laser treatment, in significantly reducing the discomfort and recovery time associated with gum surgery.
Dr. Stephen Brown, the first dentist in Philadelphia County to use LPT, is also the first in the city to employ the Perio-Lase® MVP-7, the first digital dental laser in the nation for LPT.
“This device is nothing short of revolutionary,” he says, explaining that it is the only laser known to improve gingival index, which in turn improves the quality, quantity and severity of Periodontal Disease. He adds that it reduces bleeding from the gums (Gingival Bleeding Index), periodontal pocket depth (Probing Depth), and incidence of loose teeth (Tooth Mobility). The Perio-Lase® MVP-7 also increases the level of tissue attachment. In other words, patients with gum disease can now experience significantly less pain, bleeding, and tooth loss.
